Youth Club .......... As well as running soccer teams Cleveland Hall has always been active in running a youth club for local youngsters be they soccer players or not.
However in May of 1997 disaster struck when arsonists caused serious structural damage to the Youth Club premises on Chowdene Bank. The building, which contained a soft drink bar, pool tables, a table tennis table, a treatment room and a weights room, has been condemned and the purpose built 5 a side area was also put out of use. Hordes of soccer memorabilia collected from attendance at tournaments around the country were destroyed in the fire together with gifts and mementoes given to the club by current professional players.
Lyndhurst Move Approved
However it does now look like the trauma of the arson is in the past with Gateshead Council`s approval of the former Lyndhurst Comprehensive School site as new club headquarters.
Phase 1 of the work is now complete and the gymnasium has been completely renovated. New heating and lighting systems have been installed and the premises are now being fully utilised.
The development allows Gateshead Cleveland Hall to in effect own its own pitches, and all training sessions for the clubs teams will be taking place at the premises
Times and dates of the youth club and photographs from the new site will be here soon. |
